  3. How Gastro Office Is Building Its Independent Physician Referral Network With Offcall

Dr. Krishna Rayapudi wanted a better way to connect with physicians, manage referrals, and grow his independent gastroenterology practice. He found it in Offcall.

For independent physicians, referrals are more than a way to bring new patients into the practice. They're how physicians build trusted networks, connect patients with the right care, and support other independent practices in their communities.

But the infrastructure behind those relationships hasn't kept up.

For Dr. Krishna Rayapudi of Gastro Office in Central Ohio, that meant relying on fax to send referrals, manually tracking where referrals came from, developing referral statistics, and entering referral information back into the patient chart.

It's a familiar collection of administrative tasks that can make something as fundamental as one physician referring a patient to another unnecessarily complicated.

That's why Gastro Office is moving its physician referral and networking workflow to Offcall.

Building a network of independent physicians

For Dr. Rayapudi, the appeal of Offcall goes beyond digitizing the referral itself.

What stands out is the opportunity to discover, connect with, and support other independent physicians — both through the Offcall platform and through in-person events that bring local physicians together.

“The fact that Offcall can support other independent practices while also easily discovering and connecting with other independents is a major reason to use the platform,” Dr. Rayapudi shared.

That network matters to independent practices.

Instead of relying on fragmented directories, personal cell phone numbers, or informal relationships, physicians can use Offcall to find colleagues and communicate directly in a network built specifically for them.

“I value the network access it creates, along with the easy communication with other physicians,” Dr. Rayapudi said. “Using an app dedicated to physicians, rather than their cell phone numbers, is helpful.”

More than a referral tool

One of the features Dr. Rayapudi has already found particularly useful isn't part of the traditional referral workflow at all: community chat.

“The chat feature with the community is awesome!” That's increasingly becoming an important part of how physicians use Offcall.

A referral often begins with a relationship: knowing who practices nearby, understanding what they specialize in, being able to ask a quick question, or knowing that a colleague will take good care of a patient.

By putting those relationships and the referral workflow in the same physician network, Offcall is designed to make it easier for independent physicians to collaborate — not just exchange referral paperwork.

Who should physicians refer to Gastro Office?

Gastro Office provides care for a broad range of gastrointestinal conditions, and Dr. Rayapudi is particularly interested in connecting with physicians caring for patients with:

- Fecal incontinence
- Hemorrhoid problems
- Constipation
- Other gastrointestinal conditions
- Patients without insurance who may benefit from Gastro Office's cash-pay pricing for GI services
- Patients interested in weight-loss treatment

Dr. Rayapudi is also the first physician in Central Ohio to perform endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty.

His advice to independent physicians who are still managing their referral networks the old-fashioned way is simple:

“Try the Offcall app.”
