Introducing Offcall: A New Platform Helping Physicians Navigate Their Careers and Finances

With $2 million in funding from Bloomberg Beta, Roar Ventures, and over 26 influential, practicing physicians across the country, Offcall is restoring balance to physician finances amid declining compensation and rising burnout.

San Francisco, CA – December 4th, 2024 – Offcall, a financial and career platform built by and for physicians, officially launches today to address the growing career and financial challenges faced by doctors in an increasingly complex healthcare landscape. Driven by its mission to dramatically reduce burnout by improving the wealth and wellbeing of doctors, Offcall aims to provide doctors across the country with transparent compensation data, practical financial and career tools and resources, and a vibrant digital space for meaningful connection in an effort to help improve their professional and personal lives.

Offcall has raised $2 million in its round of funding, with participation from Bloomberg Beta, Roar Ventures, as well as 26 leading physicians across the U.S. including Shiv Rao, MD, Founder and CEO of Abridge, Joseph Habboushe, MD, CEO and co-founder of MDCalc, and Cheri Blauwet, MD, Paralympian and sports medicine physician.

“Physicians would never make clinical decisions without knowing patients’ vital signs, but when it comes to our own finances and choosing where to work, we lack financial vital signs and are left flying blind,” said Dr. Graham Walker, co-founder of Offcall and practicing emergency medicine physician in San Francisco. “By finally providing clear and personalized financial data, Offcall will bring much-needed transparency and help ensure that physicians nationwide start getting fairly compensated for their time and value.”

At the outset, Offcall will offer physicians free access to its vast and verified database of job and compensation data, such as patient volume, call schedules, benefits, and administrative culture. Physicians can also access high-yield resources on a range of topics that are tailored to their unique financial challenges, such as how to manage student debt, plan for retirement, navigate taxes, and balance personal and professional priorities.

“By focusing squarely on physicians’ financial health, Offcall is tackling one of the leading causes of burnout nationwide,” said Jake Horowitz, Offcall co-founder and CEO. “Our goal is to instill greater transparency and more autonomy for physicians, and by doing so, we will not only help physicians find more fulfillment in their jobs, we will also foster healthier relationships between physicians and their employers – creating a more sustainable and win-win approach for the future of medicine.”

Over time, Offcall plans to offer additional career-navigation tools to help physicians compare and understand their employment and financial options, better advocate for themselves, and find professional opportunities tailored to their preferences.

“Thriving at work today requires a different toolkit than prior generations," said Karin Klein, Founding Partner at Bloomberg Beta. "Offcall is bringing important new tools to doctors to help them practice at the top of their license. Bloomberg Beta invests in the future of work, and we’re thrilled to back Offcall as they create tools that will help the modern physician thrive for years to come."
