What an exciting week! In this week’s special edition of On/Offcall, we dive into Offcall’s 2025 Physicians AI Report which dropped earlier this week and flips the script on what’s really happening with AI in medicine.

Not a day goes by where some new “thought leader” doesn’t claim that AI will fully replace doctors. 🤦Yes, this makes for catchy media headlines, but in reality, no one ever asks physicians themselves what they think will happen…

… Which is exactly what we decided to do. If you’re a regular reader of this newsletter, then you know we’ve been asking physicians what AI tools they’re actually using as part of a confidential national survey about what physicians think will actually happen to the medical profession, if they feel their employers are succeeding or failing with AI, and much more.

And this week, we finally revealed the results, which were both surprising and explosive:

🔥 42% of physicians say AI makes them MORE likely to stay in medicine

🤖 87% DON’T believe AI will take their jobs

🧠 67% of physicians are using AI daily, but 81% are fed up with how their employer is deploying it

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. To understand the challenges and possibilities when it comes to what physicians are looking for with AI, be sure to explore the full report and download it below!

Deep Dive: Two Statistics That Stopped Graham in His Tracks

We asked Graham to be a guest on his very own How I Doctor podcast this week so he could share his honest reactions to the Physicians AI Report, and he pulled no punches.

“We're used to being told by administrators what AI should be doing for us. But this survey suggests that physicians are already using AI way more than anyone realizes, and they like it way more than anyone wants to admit,” Graham shared.

📊 Two out of three doctors are already using AI daily: What did Graham have to say? “Which means if you've ever whispered a question to ChatGPT at 3:00 AM on shift, congratulations, you're not weird, you're in the majority.”

😤 81% are frustrated with how their organizations are deploying it: Graham’s take? “Which is the most physician thing ever. Yeah, I use it constantly, but it's not set up how I want to use it.”

Don’t miss this week’s podcast, where Graham takes listeners beyond the numbers and shares what these findings truly reveal about physicians’ day-to-day work and what comes next for physicians on the frontlines.
